LeFloid

Logo of LeFloid

LeFloid, whose real name is Florian Mundt, is one of the defining figures in the German-speaking YouTube cosmos. He is a pioneer of the scene and was consistently among the most-watched and most-subscribed YouTubers throughout the 2010s. Particularly through his format "LeNews," which processed social and political issues for a young target audience in a fast, entertaining style, he struck a nerve with young millennials and the incoming Generation Z. There, news from politics and society were mixed with meme inserts, sarcastic tone, and pointed commentary. The format, however, regularly faced criticism for superficial treatment of current controversies, occasional dissemination of misinformation, and lack of distance from the topics covered. LeNews ran for 10 years before LeFloid announced the end of the format in summer 2025.

Facts

Topics Covered / Focus AreasLeFloid gained his great fame on YouTube primarily through his format "LeNews," in which he commented on current news from politics, society, and the YouTube scene in 5- to 10-minute episodes. This was combined with memes and internet culture to appeal to the young target audience of YouTube users. He also frequently posted longer videos in which he positioned himself on current social debates, making him a central point of reference for the YouTube community. Additionally, vlogs, gaming videos, and personal projects such as his rap under "Suga et Sharx" appear on his side channels.
Views / Values / Political StancesOverall, LeFloid advocates socially critical and progressive positions with a clear stance against xenophobia, exclusion, and discrimination. As moderator of his formats and commentator on YouTube, he consistently emphasizes his goal of raising awareness among young people about political issues. LeFloid also positions himself against the power of social platform operators by frequently speaking out against the guidelines of YouTube, Google, and Meta regarding hate comments or their algorithms. He uses his reach to support charitable initiatives and has created the streaming event "Loot für die Welt" (Loot for the World), which raises donations for social projects.
Mode of DeliveryLeFloid presents current social and political issues in an entertaining-critical news format called "LeNews," specifically tailored to adolescents. His videos are characterized by quick editing, pointed commentary, meme overlays, and individual assessments. He frequently uses humorous to sarcastic language, reflects opinions from the online community, and incorporates his own positions. The content mixes classical news elements with entertainment and appeals for participation, clearly distinguishing it from traditional news broadcasts.
ReputationLeFloid enjoys a reputation in the German YouTube scene as one of the defining and most influential web video producers of the 2010s, was long regarded as an innovative mediator of youth-oriented news and social debates, and has been awarded multiple times for his social contribution—including the Grimme Online Award and the Web Video Prize. However, his videos and projects have also been repeatedly discussed controversially—for example, for superficial, sometimes inaccurate reporting or an insufficiently critical, "well-behaved" style in his interview with Angela Merkel.
Target AudienceLeFloid's target audience is primarily adolescents and young adults interested in current news, social debates, and entertainment. His format "LeNews" specifically appeals to young viewers who prefer to consume news in an entertaining, fast-paced, and casual style rather than in classical news broadcasts.
Part of Network or CampaignLeFloid founded "2nd Wave" GmbH in 2016 together with YouTuber PietSmiet and manager Boris Lehfeld, which specialized in artist management in the gaming and streaming sector. In June 2024, both Florian Mundt and Piet Smiet withdrew as shareholders and have since no longer been listed as artists on the agency's website. LeFloid was also part of the Studio71 network, which belongs to the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, with whom he produced, among other things, the YouTube Premium series "LeFloid vs. The World." Additionally, LeFloid founded the association "301+" with other befriended YouTubers, which is not a classical network but rather promotes exchange and support among creators.
Cross-Posting & FriendsIn earlier times, other major figures in the YouTube scene, particularly from the gaming sector, regularly appeared in LeFloid's formats—such as Gronkh, RocketBeans, or Rezo. In the past, he had joint projects such as 1080nerdscope or DoktorFroid with other web video creators. With his current partner Lena ("leightweightlena"), he has a joint podcast.
Endorsements & RecognitionsIn 2015, LeFloid was given the opportunity to conduct an interview with Angela Merkel. This remains his most-watched video. It represents a turning point in the interaction between German politics and influencers, as it was the first interview of a federal chancellor with a far-reaching social media channel. In retrospect, LeFloid admitted that he felt "exploited" because he was given little preparation for the interview and inadvertently helped the CDU achieve significant reach increase in the 2015 European Parliament election campaign.
Business ModelFlorian Mundt's income derives primarily from advertising revenue and merchandise sales. Joint projects such as "1080nerdscope" or "DoktorFroid" with other YouTubers aimed at other platforms such as Twitch or TV productions as output.
